Drop In Program Recap: Mammoth, CA
Our freeski and snowboard training camps at Mammoth Mountain were nothing short of a success. We were treated to consistently great weather, paired with perfectly shaped jumps and decent rail setups making for ideal progression and refinement. From the very start, the crew brought the energy. Everyone showed up ready to push themselves working to sharpen their fundamentals, and build new layers into their skiing.
Major focuses of the camp included takeoff patterning, establishing consistency in approach, edge timing, and body position at the lip. Athletes spent time dialing in clean takeoffs to lay the foundation for both new and existing tricks. Wy’East coaches also emphasized where to spot during rotations and flips, helping them develop better air awareness. Whether it was identifying early spotting points on corks, or working on consistent head position for switch takeoffs, everyone made big strides in their jumping.
Off the hill, team bonding made the experience even more impactful. Our post ski ice baths at Convict Lake were great for recovery and a mental reset. Evenings were capped off with frisbee golf reflection sessions, where we had a chance to talk through the day, reflect on our goals, and detect areas of improvement for the following day.
At the end of the week, everyone walked away having learned something new. Whether it was a trick, a mental approach, or a deeper understanding of their skiing and snowboarding, every athlete went home with a new weapon in their bag. The progression, environment, and camaraderie made this trip one to remember. Each athlete should be proud of what they accomplished and look back on this camp as a major highlight of their season.
