Wy’East Mountain Academy is pleased to present the Outdoor Explorer Program, an interdisciplinary athletic program combined with middle school or high school academics, depending on age, where students have the opportunity to participate in a variety of outdoor activities and athletics that parallel the best in the world of action sports. Our Outdoor Explorer Program allows students to experience a variety of goal-oriented outdoor athletic activities and sports under the guidance of our highly qualified and professional coaches. Included in this program are the following athletic disciplines:
Skiing and/or Snowboarding,
Mountain Biking
Skateboarding
Hiking
Surfing and more.
The Outdoor Explorer Program allows to spend time with top professionals who can guide, motivate, and inspire the imaginations of student-athletes towards lifelong enjoyment of sports and a lifestyle of healthy living. We believe sharing our passions will be transformative in the lives of young student-athletes.
GOAL-ORIENTED WITH INTENTIONAL EXPERIENCES
Our Outdoor program evolved from our highly focused Olympic athlete training programs that are goal oriented and driven with hyper-intention (did you know our Coaching staff have a combine 10 Olympic medals?). While Outdoor students aren’t focused on earning a gold medal in just one discipline, our coaching staff will work closely to understand the individual goals set for each student by shaping a rolling four-year plan with key performance indicators (KPI’s). Just like our elite student-athletes, the Outdoor KPI’s are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-Based (SMART Goals), which are transparent to parents, students, coaches, life coaches, and academic staff. It is this entire 360 Support system that helps ensure student growth and success at all stages.
OUTDOOR EXPERIENCES
Our staff is passionate about their specific disciplines and are excited to share their expertise with your student-athlete. In addition to our fully accredited academic program, now students can mountain bike the best loam in the world on Monday, snowboard down a volcano on Tuesday, Skate their way through the best skateparks around Portland on Wednesday, jump into an airbag on campus on Thursday before wrapping up the best week of their life with a day at the beach surfing. There is no place on earth like Oregon to be surrounded by the natural beauty of giant cedar trees below snow-capped volcanoes all within an hour of an international airport that is equal distance to one of the most pristine coastlines on earth.
FALL SEMESTER
Fall semester is all about strength, conditioning, and exploring the Northwest’s great outdoors with hikes, skateboarding and mountain biking on the best trail systems in the Northwest. Depending on the specific student-athlete goals for the year, students can select from several trips that usually include coastal surfing and campouts, skate park tours throughout Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and California, and a trip to the US Ski and Snowboard’s Center of Excellence in Park City, UT to use the same private facilities used by the US Olympic teams
WINTER SEMESTER
Come winter, Outdoor students will head to the mountains three to five times per week with our dedicated and professional ski & snowboard coaches while also spending time on a skateboard and honing air awareness on the trampolines. Outdoor students can look forward to at least one North American or international trip to explore the mountains and cultures abroad. Past trips have included Japan, China, and Europe.
SUMMER SEMESTER
As the snows melt, Outdoor students will experience more time in the forests mountain biking, hiking, and camping outdoors while learning about the Northwest’s unique geography and history. Once we enter full-blown summer, students can surf and snowboard or ski all in one day as Mt. Hood has real snow all year round! And summer semester students will benefit from the professional skiers and snowboarders that converge on Wy’East’s well-known sister camps High Cascade Snowboard Camp, Windells Ski Camp, Seek NW Skate Camp, and Milepost 35 Mountain Bike Camp. Mt. Hood is the mecca for pros.
We welcome your student-athlete to experience the very best of the action sports industry and be inspired by our passionate and dedicated professionals.
