Snowboard OVERVIEW

Snowboard

Wy’East Mountain Academy’s Snowboard Program is a year-round training experience designed for anyone passionate about improving their skillset as a snowboarder. Regardless of skill level, we offer a comprehensive athletic program that emphasizes progression, results, and personal growth while fostering teamwork and discipline. Our program prepares athletes to compete at the highest level, from regional USASA events to FIS-level competitions in slopestyle, halfpipe, and rail jams, including Futures Tour, NORAM, and Europa Cups. With access to over 100 days of on-snow training annually and our state-of-the-art dry slope airbags and rail setup, we provide the tools for success. Wy’East has a proven track record of developing podium-topping athletes who excel both on the slopes and in the classroom.

Goal Oriented

Goal setting sessions happen multiple times a year within the snowboard program to help identify the purpose for each student’s time at Wy’East. We believe that creating a pathway of short term goals to achieve the long term goals is a crucial component for the success of everyone on the team. Our coaching staff will work closely to understand the individual goals set for each student by shaping a rolling four-year plan with key performance indicators (KPI’s).  The snowboard program KPI’s are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Time-Based (SMART Goals), which are transparent to parents, students, coaches, life coaches, and academic staff.  It is this entire 360 Support system that helps ensure student growth and success at all stages.

Industry Outreach

Our history and connection with High Cascade Snowboard Camp opens countless opportunities for our students to network with brands and industry professionals who are already invested in the community. Using our long lasting industry relationships, our coaching staff create opportunities to get the athletes directly involved through marketing content, brand facility tours, and introductions to brand representatives and team managers.

FALL SEMESTER

The fall semester is a critical time for preparing our athletes for the competition season and the year ahead. We focus on strength and conditioning, flexibility, mobility, and building a strong foundation while prioritizing injury prevention. Using our on-campus trampolines, dry slope jib line, and airbags, we conduct dryland training in a safe and controlled environment, allowing athletes to experiment with new tricks as they gear up for the season. Additionally, we organize several team day trips for skate and surf cross-training sessions. The snowboard team also embarks on two extended trips, one domestic and one international, to train on snow, visit colleges, and explore industry hubs.

Winter SEMESTER

With ski resorts open and competition season in full swing, the winter semester is the busiest time of year for our snowboard program. Over the 16-week semester, athletes train locally five days a week at Timberline, Mt. Hood Meadows, and Ski Bowl, while competing in 8 to 12 local USASA and FIS-level freestyle competitions to test their progress. They also have the opportunity to travel domestically for contests and unique training experiences. In April, the entire team heads to Copper, Colorado, for USASA Nationals. As the semester winds down and other resorts begin to close, Mt. Hood hits its stride, allowing us to wrap up the season at home with slushy park laps and long, smooth groomers.

Summer SEMESTER

While the rest of North America takes a break and lifts shut down for the summer, Mt. Hood is in full swing. Timberline offers a world-class training opportunity with its Freestyle Training Center (F.T.C.) during the summer months. Our student-athletes have the chance to train on snow five days a week while getting ahead on their academics for the following year. With no contests on the calendar, our sole focus is progression, learning new tricks, and preparing for the upcoming season.

THE Mammoth experience

Mammoth is one of the premier destinations for park skiing, especially in the spring when you can showcase your skills in one of the best-maintained parks in the U.S. We take full advantage of everything Mammoth has to offer, from top-to-bottom laps to refine technique to exploring all the diverse parks across the mountain.
