Skiing
Wy’East Mountain Academy Ski Program is a premier ski focused program for the “skier”. Regardless of level or skill, we offer an all encompassing program that pushes progression, results, media, and all of the other inner workings of the ski industry. With a long history of success in the freeski disciplines WyEast has helped produce olympians, X-Games medalists, Dew Tour medalists, national team members, and professional skiers alike. Our ski program allows our student athletes to spend time pursuing, sharing and living their passions all the while obtaining a high school diploma..
Led by ski program director Brian McCarthy, our students’ opportunities are limitless in training, traveling, and competing. Through various opportunities, students develop important life skills that include time management, teamwork, and independence. Wy'East Mountain Academy is the world’s exclusive academy that can offer students on-snow training every season of the year. Having our campus located at the base of Mt. Hood with its year round snow, coupled with our vast experience traveling the globe, our athletes are always in the right place at the right time. We provide the ultimate maximization of time and resources.
GOAL-ORIENTED WITH INTENTIONAL EXPERIENCES
Our ski students work closely with the coaching staff to understand the individual goals set for each student by shaping a rolling four-year plan with key performance indicators (KPI’s). Whether the goal is to be an elite competitor, industry influencer, media professional or just someone who is passionate about skiing, the ski KPI’s are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-Based (SMART Goals), which are transparent to parents, students, coaches, life coaches, and academic staff. It is this entire 360 support system that helps ensure student growth and success at all stages.
FALL SEMESTER
Fall semester is key for preparation and allows us to be “ready” for when snow flies, and lifts start spinning. We build our athletic schedule around strength and conditioning, flexibility and mobility, trampoline training on our super tramp and fly beds, as well as utilizing campus’ dry slope setups (Jib, Jump, Transition). Fall is when our student athletes put in the work that they will need for later on in the season. We take the time in the fall to show the value of, and educate students on the use of video for reviewing tricks as well as promoting themselves on social media. Each student will learn the benefits of self promotion and how to properly market themselves to potential sponsors no matter their ability. We plan two major camps for the fall semester. The first being an AirBag camp to a dry slope landing bag (Utah Olympic Park, or Maximise). Where we start to materialize season goals in a safe and productive environment. The second, is an On-Snow camp a little later in the semester where the goal is to get on snow before mountains in the U.S. have a chance to open fully and take those same semester goals to snow. We have found that the combination of these two camps gives our athletes and competitors the opportunity to be best prepared for the season ahead!
WINTER SEMESTER
Winter semester is “GO” time for the ski program. Lifts are spinning, events are happening, and we have our foot on the gas, cashing in on all of the hard work we put in during the Fall Semester. Students will get the opportunity to travel throughout the country for events in their specific disciplines, as well as film/content generated trips where we will be working exclusively with resorts and giving our students an inside look as to how those relationships work and what it’s like to be on a video/film shoot! We cap off the end of the season here at Hood when the days get longer and the weather starts to warm, with slushy park laps, and long groomers on the Mile!
SUMMER SEMESTER
Summer semester is our time to get ahead of the curve! When the rest of North America is taking a break and lifts shut down for the summer, Mt. Hood is just getting started. Timberline offers a world class training opportunity with their F.T.C. park in the summer. Our student athletes have the opportunity to continue training 5 days a week on snow. With no contests on the calendar our only focus is progression, learning new tricks, dialing in old ones, and continuing to train for the following season. The weather is warm, the sun is shining, and the stoke is high during our summer semester!
THE MAMMOTH EXPERIENCE
Mammoth is one of the premier destinations for park skiing, especially in the spring when you can throw down in one of the most well maintained parks in the US. We will be riding everything that Mammoth has to offer from full top to bottom laps to work on technique to all the different parks that Mammoth has to offer…

Leo Jose
Coach, Ski
Coming in hot off the academy residential team, Leo has been working to get in the mix with the Freeski team for these last few years. From crushing on the road to being that fun but firm voice around campus, we are beyond excited to have Leo join the Freeski program. If there was a yogi bear at the academy, Leo would fit that mold as “he is definitely smarter than the average ski coach! Go kick it with him Boo-Boo and elevate your skiing to that next level."
